I purchased a few sets of Speedsafe carbon wheels and two pair of rims in October 2018. I’ll be updating this blog post with as-received conditions, observations, as well as some ride feedback once springtime ’19 hits the Midwest.
The 27.5’er non-boost wheelset shown to the left has, no tape, no stem. Both wheels shown, stacked, weighs 1296 grams. The rear wheel weight alone was 721 grams (not shown), so the front wheel wheel weight is 575 grams. Overall a very light weight wheelset.
Borealis Carbondale V2.0 wheelset. These are the second pair of wheels I’ve owned, and I love them. They’re tough, easy as hell to configure tubeless, and a decent weight. The rear rim with the SRAM XX1 XG-1199 10-42 11-Speed Cassette and inferior quality tubeless presta stem tipped the scale at 1694 grams. Assuming the XG-1199 cassette weighs in at the published 268 grams, leaves the wheel set with rotor at 1,426 grams (3.14 lbs). A very respectable weight for an 85mm rim. The front wheel wighed 1329 g, and the Schwable Jumbo Jim Evo Addix Fatbike Folding 26×4.80″ SnakeSkin TL-Easy SpeedGrip stripes blue pulled 1321g on the gravimeter vs the published 1290g

2016 Motobecane Titanium NightTrain Bullet Fat Bike, Size Large 19″
Purchased New in October ’16. I estimated it was ridden once a week, 10 miles a ride for 6 months a year = 500 miles. It comes from a multi-bike family, so it was in rotation with many other bikes. It never saw snow.
The bike is stock, except the grip shifters. I sold the original thumb shifters long ago, so those are not available. Full asking price sale includes a Chiner CF 31.6mm seatpost as well as the original alloy. Also includes a pair of alloy fiber water bottle cages.
Price includes a mechanical tuneup including adjusting gears, truing wheels on park TS-4 stand, and repacking any non-cartridge bearings (I thing the hubs are just sealed bearing types, so I’ll redo those)
Had a good time volunteering for CRAMBA on Sunday 11/4/18 from 10am to 4:15pm, building a new bridge to provide access from the paved trail system to the new CK loop #3. CK stands for Clinton-Kalamazoo. As you may know, the Kalamazoo canal system was installed in the 1800’s as a way to transport goods. The canal system was never used and was abandoned once the railroads took over. The canal is still visible from Yates cider mill down to the dodge park area.
I was quite whipped out afterwards, and spent the evening relaxing watching netflix in the comfort of my living room with the fireplace running. Overall it was a great day, no rain, and in the company of people with common interests. The older guys were the best. Dan, Joe. They gave me inspiration on what it’s like to be a 70 year old Billy Bicycle. Giving back to to the bicycling community.
